How it's Made
Seeds & Stories operates according to the 4R approach: reduce, reuse, regenerate and recycle. These handbags are handmade in Bigodi, a rural village in Western Uganda, by Moonlight, Janerose and Grace B. Our talented artisans weave these bags with local banana fibre and raffia or local banana fibre and naturally dyed banana silk. Moonlight naturally dyes the banana silk with local dye plants, roots, leaves or flowers. We use rainwater to make our dye baths.
Natural dyes are a biodegradable, non-toxic alternative to petroleum-derived and harmful synthetic dyes, making them better for our artisans, customers, and the environment.

Moonlight, Janerose and Grace B apply traditional weaving techniques to create these beautiful handbags. Each bag takes approximately one week to make.

From harvesting to natural dyeing, from hand weaving to finishing, our artisans work at a slow pace in harmony with nature, conserving natural resources.

We strive to create products that leave the world in a better place than when we started.
