What is the Bogolan Mudcloth ?

Bogolan Mudcloth is a Malian fabric dyed according to a technique used in Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Ivory Coast and Senegal and composed of a more or less thick cotton canvas, spun and woven 100% by hand, and patterns dyed with fermented mud and other organic dyes. The dyeing technique is 100% organic, free of any kind of harmful chemicals.
The word bogolan, from the Bambara language (the most widely used language in Mali), comes from the words bɔgɔ the earth, and lan, a Bambara suffix with no equivalent in English meaning "from". It refers to both the fabric and a particular style of dyeing.

Artisans draw symbols on these fabrics to tell traditional stories of the peoples of the region.
Once used by warriors and hunters for camouflage, Bogolan mudcloth is now used around the world to illustrate its attachment to African culture.

This fabric has multiple applications: cushions, tablecloths, rugs, upholstery, etc.. It can also be used as a sofa throw and on armchairs.

Bogolan mudcloth is the perfect complement to bohemian-chic, bohemian, ethnic, global or afropolitan decoration.

At AfricanTextil, we bring you Bogolan mudcloth fabric directly from North Mali where our Bogolan mudcloth workshop is based, a rare and precious fabric.
By buying our bogolan mudcloth fabric, you participate in the socio-economic development of North Mali region and also in our activity in Dakar. Indeed, AfricanTextil is also based in Dakar (Senegal).
