Ethical & Sustainable: At Seeds & Stories, we are committed to sustainability through our 4R approach: reduce, reuse, regenerate, and recycle. Our artisan-made clutch bags are meticulously crafted in Bigodi, a rural village in Western Uganda, by Grace N, a highly skilled member of our women's artisans group. Grace skillfully hand-weaves each clutch bag using locally sourced marantochloa and papyrus, sustainably harvested from the Bigodi swamp. Additionally, she utilizes natural dye plants and roots to naturally dye the marantochloa, enhancing their unique colors and textures.
We prioritize eco-conscious practices throughout our production process, using rainwater for dye baths and opting for natural dyes, which are biodegradable and non-toxic. By harnessing the gifts of nature, we ensure that our products are not only safe for our artisans but also for our customers and the environment.
Grace carefully weaves small mats, stitches them together, and finishes the clutch bags with naturally dyed banana silk or fibre, resulting in a product that is both stylish and sustainable. Each bag is a testament to the dedication and skill of our artisans, taking approximately one week to create from start to finish.
From start to finish, we uphold ethical and sustainable practices, using only organic, sustainably harvested local fibres and natural dyes sourced from plants, leaves, roots, and flowers. Our artisans work at a deliberate pace, in harmony with nature, to conserve natural resources and preserve traditional crafts and cultural heritage. At Seeds & Stories, we empower our artisans to create unique products while ensuring the preservation of their ancestral techniques and values.

Bespoke & Made to Order: Our clutch bags are customizable and made to order, allowing you to tailor them to your preferences. You have the freedom to select the size, handles, colours, and finishing options that best suit your style. Choose from a variety of options, including natural colours of the fibres or vibrant hues such as red, purple or gold from our natural dyes. Additionally, you can opt for either raw or naturally dyed banana silk or banana fibre for the finishing touches.
When it comes to handles, you have the choice between shoulder handles or wrist handles, providing versatility and functionality to your clutch bag. We value your input and encourage you to send us a message with your specific preferences. However, please keep in mind that as our bags are handmade, slight variations in design, colour, and patterns may occur. These changes are a natural result of using seasonal natural dyes and fibres, adding an extra layer of charm and uniqueness to each of our products.

Making a Difference: We are committed to making a positive impact on the world with our products. Our stylish clutch bags not only showcase artisanal craftsmanship but also create social, economic, and learning opportunities for women in rural Uganda. By purchasing from Seeds & Stories, you are directly contributing to the empowerment of these women, helping to increase their income and well-being while preserving traditional crafts and benefiting the environment.

Please note that our artisans dedicate approximately two weeks to handcrafting your product with care and attention to detail. Depending on your location, it may take up to four weeks for the product to be delivered. We appreciate your patience and assure you that the wait is worthwhile, knowing that your purchase is making a meaningful difference in the lives of women in Bigodi and contributing to environmental regeneration.

Materials

Our clutch bags are crafted from a variety of locally sourced natural fibers, including Marantocloha, papyrus, naturally dyed Marantocloha, naturally dyed banana silk, and banana fiber. These materials are carefully selected for their durability, sustainability, and eco-friendliness, ensuring that each bag is both stylish and environmentally responsible. The lining of our bags is made from 100% preloved cotton sheets that we procure from local markets. These sheets are eco-printed with local leaves and flowers, adding a unique and personal touch to each bag while promoting circular fashion practices.

Care Instructions

To maintain the longevity of your tote bag, we advise using a clean, damp cloth to gently wipe down its exterior when necessary. As our bags are responsibly crafted, they can be composted at the end of their lifecycle. Before composting, remember to remove the metal button to ensure proper decomposition. This responsible practice ensures that your bag can be safely returned to the earth.
