Guidelines for optimal use of Shweshwe products:
All fabric has been pre-washed before being sewn so there should be no issues with shrinkage or colour bleed for future washes. Washing removes starch and will soften fabric. All products except stuffed animals are machine washable. A cold water wash is recommended. Keep colours separate. Do not tumble dry. Use cotton setting on iron.
We are a small business based in a rural area of South Africa. All our products are hand made.
Shweshwe is a beautiful African textile loved for its versatility and iconic design.
There is much preparation before sewing our products can be done. Washing all fabric to remove starch, encourage colour bleeding and promote preshrinking. This is done by soaking fabric in cold water with vinegar, then machine washing and air drying in a shady spot. Ironing is needed to remove all wrinkles before cutting. After completion each product is carefully checked then packed for shipping
